Enteroviruses can cause a wide spectrum of illness ranging from a summer cold to mycocarditis and encephalitis, but most of the infections remains
unsymptomatic. When the immune system is intact, it results in the self limiting and it results in the elimination of the virus. Till today one is
using cell culture and serological tests along with the dot spot or hybridization assays to detect this virus. These assays have problem of
long time to give the results as well as lower sensitivity along with the cross reactions problem, therefore the PCR is being used to get the
most accurate results along with the highest specificity and sensitivity. Moreover PCR can be used to detect the different kind of
enteroviruses.
Samples: stool, drainage water, drinking water, Throat samples, cell culture isolation, blood fluids like blood/serum, tissues like in
myocarditis biospies. Our kit needs isolated RNA, therefore one should use good isolation RNA kit.
Target gene: highly conserved region in the enteroviruses
Validation: tests with related and non related micro organisms. Our kit can identify 60 serotypes of enteroviruses:
Polio 1, 2,3; Cox. A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A12, A13, A14, A16, A17, A18, A19, A20, A21,
A22, Cox. B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, Echo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,17,18,19, 20, 21,24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31,
32, 33 and Entero 68, 69, 70 and 71 (it does not detect Coxsackie A11, A17 and A24 as well as echovirus 16, 22 and 23)
Sensitivity: 10-50 gemones equivalents
